Apostles Are Special Witnesses
of Our Lord Jesus Christ
The First Presidency and The Quorum of Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are today's special witnesses of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Chosen by the same process of revelation from heaven as in New Testament times, these 15 men travel the globe continually, administering to the affairs of the Church under the direction of the Savior Himself.
The Church was organized in the year 1830 with six members by the Prophet Joseph Smith in Palmyra, New York. Today's membership is 15.6 million (2015) in countless countries speaking more 110 different languages, with a growth rate of some 30,000 new members each month.
We invite all men and women everywhere to ponder in their hearts the remarkable messages found on these pages, and then ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ if they are true. Those who sincerely pursue this course and ask in faith will gain a testimony of the truth and divinity of these messages by the power of the Holy Ghost.
Those who gain this divine witness from the Holy Spirit will also come to know by the same power that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, that Joseph Smith is His revelator and prophet in these last days, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with prophets and apostles at its head, is the Lord’s kingdom once again established on the earth, preparatory to the Second Coming of the Messiah.
Under the direction of Jesus Christ, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is led by 15 apostles. The man who has been an apostle the longest is the Prophet and President of the Church, and by inspiration he selects two other apostles as counselors. These three function as the First Presidency, which is the highest governing body of the Church. President Russell M. Nelson is the prophet to all the world in our day. He was ordained an Apostle in 1984 and became the Prophet and President in 2018. The Prophets Voice is a collection of all of President Nelson's General Conference talks.
